The Nav Durga – Ma Durga has nine forms

Being the deity of the cosmic fort (Durg) she is called goddess Durga. Mother Durga is the embodiment of the divine energy and the creative power. According to the ancient scriptures Mother Durga has nine forms or dimensions as under;

SHAILPUTRI (The Daughter of Stone)
The first day of Navratra (The nine holy nights) is dedicated to the worship of Shailputri. Goddess Durga’s first form in the Nava-Durga series of divine forms, amongst the nine, is Shailaputri. She was nomenclatured as Shailaputri after being born in the house of the king of the mountains, Himalaya. In this mold the mother is seen holding a trident in her right hand and a lotus in her left and she is mounted on an ox. In the past life she was the daughter of Daksha, the son of Lord Brahma. She was known as Sati then. As the daughter of Daksha she was married to the God of Gods, Mahadeva. amongst all the nine forms of Devi Durga, Shailaputri is the most powerful and glorified of all. According to the Upanishads this form of Durga broke the pride of the Gods by assuming the mold of Haimabati.

BRAHMACHARINI (Penance Doer)
This form of Durga is worshiped in the second day of the Durga puja. Durga’s second appearance is in the form of Brahmacharini. Here “Brahma” means meditation. That is, the Goddess is the meditator or a practitioner of penance. She is seen here holding a string of rosary beads in her right hand and a Kamandalu (an urn containing holy water) in her left hand. In her previous life, when she was reborn as the daughter of Himalaya, she performed severe penance to have Mahadeva as her husband. The sage God Narada advised her to take up meditation to win Shiva. For undergoing strict meditation she was known as Brahmacharini or Tapasyacharini. This form of Durga gives the devotees everlasting success. Worship of this appearance enriches the faculties of sacrifice, honesty and self-discipline. In times of utter distress the worship of this form gives success and the willpower to come out victorious.
CHANDRAGHANTA (Lunargong)
Mother Durga’s third form is known as Chandraghanta. This name finds its justification in the half moon seen on the temple of the Goddess that resembles a bell. The deity has ten arms. The ten hands of the Goddess brandish ten different weapons. Mounted on a lion this form of the mother is worshiped on the third day of the Navratri celebration. It is believed that a devotee who manages to earn the devi’s blessings can set himself free from his sins and hazards that he has committed or may face in his life. The devotee gains the power to sense the supernatural, to see it and even smell the eternal fragrance. He is also able to distinguish the otherwise inaudible celestial sounds.

KUSHMANDA (Cosmic Egg Layer)
The fourth appearance of the devi is in the form of Kushmanda. The mother gets the name as she created the universe with a smile. When there was darkness everywhere and there was no existence of the universe she created the universe with a smile. She is believed to be the source of eternal power. The Goddess has eight arms and that is why she is also known as “Ashtabhuja”. She is worshiped on the fourth day of the Navratri celebration abiding by the rituals that are described in the Shastra and the Purans. Worship of this form of the Devi exterminates sorrow and diseases and augments life, fame and strength. Mother Goddess is appeased with the slightest of devotion and if any one whole-heartedly worships the deity he will certainly gain her favour.

SKANDAMATA (The Mother of Skanda)
The fifth dimension of Mother Durga is known as Skandmata because of her being the mother of Skanda alias Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva. This form of the deity has four arms. The mother is seen holding her son Skanda with the top right hand and she is holding a lotus in her lower hand. The top left hand is positioned in a blessing gesture and the other hand holds a lotus. The goddess is fair and sits on a lotus. That is why the devi is also known as “Padmasana”. Here she is seen mounted on a lion. If anyone worships her whole-heartedly, she fulfills the wish of the devotee.

KATYAYANI DEVI (The Daughter of Katyayana)
Katyaayani is the sixth dimension form of Mother Durga. Sage Katyayana was the son of the great sage Kat. Sage Kattayan was born in the “Katya” clan. He was engaged in rigorous penance and worship of “Bhagavati Paramba”. His prayer was all about requesting the mother to appear in his house-hold as his daughter. Mother Bhagavati obliged him. After some time, when, the world was terrorized of Mahishasura, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva with their divine powers gave form to a Goddess to combat asura and destroy him. Katyayana was the first to worship her and that is why she is known as “Devi Katyayani”. It is mentioned in the Shastra that Katyaayani was born as the daughter of the sage Katyayana. Taking birth on the fourteenth day of the new moon in “Aashwin” (September-October), she accepted the worship of the sage Kattayan on Saptami, Astami and Navami and ultimately slew Mahishasura on Dashami. The Goddess is mounted on a lion and she is worshiped on the sixth day of the Durga puja. If one worships the deity with a pure soul he attains success in religion, wealth, passion and salvation. Disease, sorrow and fear are eliminated. Worship of this deity helps one to emancipate himself from the sin he may have committed over the cycle of his births and rebirths.

KALRATRI (Deadly Night)
Mother Durga’s seventh dimension is known as “Kalratri”. Mother Kalratri is terror striking in appearance. But she is very benevolent. Hence, she is also called Subhankari (Benefector). She always delivers favorable results and her devotees need not fear her manifestations. She is worshiped on the seventh day of the Durga puja. Devi Kalratri destroys the evil. If anyone whole-heartedly pleads of saving him from any impending danger, she protects him.

MAHAGAURI (The White Force)
The eight dimension of Mother Durga is known as MahaGauri. Her complexion is totally white. Her garments are also white. To have Shiva as her husband she went through a rigorous penance in the form of “Parvati”. As a result of this arduous meditation her complexion turned dark. Lord Shiva, pleased with the devotion of Parvati, bathed her in the holy water of the Ganges. As she bathed in the holy water she turned fair. From then onwards she became known as “Mahagouri”. She is worshiped on the eighth day of the Durga puja. The devotee is benefited on all fronts as he worships the deity. Due to the Goddess’s grace the devotee attains supernatural salvation, he is relieved from all his pains and fatigue and can set himself free from his previous sins. The power of her blessing is sure shot and instant.

SIDDHIDATRI (Boon Giver)
The ninth dimension of Mother Durga is Siddhidatri, the boon giver. She can bless one with para-powers. According to Devi Purana Lord Shiva prayed to her and was blessed with his eight para-powers. And because of her Lord Shiva in the form of Ardh Narishwara (Half man-half woman) was glorified. According to “Markendey Puran” there are eight types of success, such as “Anima”, “Laghima”, “Prapti”, “Prakashya”, “Mahima”, “Ishhattya”, “Bashittya”, “Sarvakaam bashayita” and “Sarvagyata”. Mother Siddhidatri is capable of rendering all these forms of successes to her devotees. She is worshipped on the ninth day of the Durga puja. She is the ultimate form of the Goddess among the Navadurga. After having performed the worship of the other forms of the Goddess according to the rituals mentioned in the Sashtra, the devotee can then start the worship of this deity. Those who worship the Goddess with full devotion are bestowed with all the success

The worship of Gayatri during Navratri

The Significance of Navratri or Nav Durga
Nav Durga is the festival of ‘Strength’-- Symbolizing the building of bodily physical strength and inner spiritual strength.
During Navrati, Prana Shakti in the universe is at the highest. Prayers and worship at this time allows us to tap into the increased cosmic energy / Prana, with greater ease then at other times.
Hence the Importance of Gayatri worship during Navratri (Inner strength ,Knowledge,Spiritual Energy)
The Festival of Navratri is a festival of Strength (Shakti).
Gayatri is known as Adishakti –The Supreme primordial power/energy. Durga, Maha Lakshmi, Maha Kali, Saraswati are different forms of this Adishakti.
The worship of Gayatri therefore is the ultimate worship of this Supreme primordial power.
Gayatri is also known as Vedmata—the origin of knowledge and righteous wisdom.
Gayatri Worship thus gives us threefold benefits. it gives Inner Strength, builds knowledge and generates tremendous Prana in the body.
The Gayatri is the only Mantra which when chanted links all the chakras of the body. This results in the enhancement of the supreme Cosmic Energy or Prana in the body.
Gayatri—Righteous Wisdom—belongs to all. The chanting of this mantra is above caste, religion, faith and nationality. Anyone can chant it.
The chanting of this Mantra is known to cause unique vibrations in the atmosphere around us, that are beneficial in the promotion of well being and peace in this world.
Procedure for  Gayatri Worship during Navratri.
24,000 Japas of the Gayatri Mantra using a rosary are to be performed. This translates to 27 Malas of daily Jap. That takes around 3 hrs a day. Havan or Yagna of one Mala Gayatri Jap(108 times) to be performed on the last day.
OR
Mantra Lekhan Sadhana—2700 Gayatri Mantras to be written everyday, over  9 days this translates to writing 24000 mantras.
This Sadhana proves to be beneficial for eliminating obstacles, fulfilling desires and in developing inner strength and spiritual power,
ALSO
The first 3 nights of Navaratri involve prayer to Durga.

“Om Kaatyaayanaaya vidmahe
Kanyaakumaari dhiimahi
Tanno durgih pracodayaat“

(Semi-literal) Translation:

We know the daughter of Maharishi Kaataayana,
We meditate on the virgin girl.
May the unconquerable one inspire us.

Purpose:
·         Removal of threats
·         To reduce the malefic effects of Rahu
·         To remove all defects of our character and our vices

The second 3 nights of Navaratri are dedicated to Lakshmi.

“Om Mahadevyai cha vidmahe
Vishnu patni cha dhimahi
Tanno Lakshmi prachodayaat“

(Semi-literal) Translation:

We know the Supreme Goddess,
We meditate on the spouse of Vishnu.
May Lakshmi inspire us.

Purpose:
·         Attraction of abundance
·         Strengthening of ones character
·         Attract auspiciousness

The third trio is focused on the worship of Saraswati. Indeed, many Hindus perform a specific pooja to Saraswati Devi on the ninth night.

GANAPATI BAPPA MORYA

Lord Ganesha is popularly known as Vighneshwara – the Lord of obstacles.Lord Ganesha represents a perfect wisdom who removes all obstacles that comes in the way of attaining God. No Hindu ritual or auspicious act happens without invoking Lord Ganesha first.
‘Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah’ is the first mantra that is chanted before beginning meditation, prayer, starting new enterprises or undertaking any new initiative.
Seekers who have a subtle intellect invoke a formless Lord Ganesha by
“O Lord, You are unborn, formless and absolute; You are beyond bliss and again bliss itself – the One and the Infinite. You are the Supreme, without attributes, differentiation and desire. You are verily the Supreme Brahman. To You, O Lord, do we offer our worship.”

SHRI MAHA GANESHA PANCHRATNAM
Mudakaraatha Modakam Sada Vimukti Saadhakam

Achintya Rupa Mantaheena Mantaraaya Krintanam
Hrudantarey Nirantaram Vasantameva Yoginam
Tameka Danta Meva Tam Vichintayaami Santatam.

Meaning of all the five stanzas in English

Ganesha, the pleasant faced one holding the sweet ‘modakam’ in his hand,
He wears the crescent moon on his head. He liberates us from misery,
protects and provides direction to those who are lost without a leader. He
removes the obstacles for those who pray to him. My salutations are to Him!

Ganesha, with the orange glow of the rising sun, is the commander of Lord
Shiva’s army. He removes the suffering of his devotees.
I seek refuge in Him!

Ganesha brings peace to the entire world.
He is large, infinite, superior and immutable. He is merciful and forgiving.
He brings happiness, success and purity of mind.
My salutations are to Ganesha, the luminous.

Ganesha, the merciful, who removes the suffering of those who have no other
refuge, destroys the demonic forces and negative tendencies in us. He dissolves
the delusions of this illusory world.
I pray to Him the one venerated in the ancient Vedas!

Ganesha, the one with the broken tusk, the son of Lord Shiva, he is the formless
absolute (his form is beyond the grasp of the intellect), he is infinite, he is the
Remover of Obstacles, he lives in the hearts of yogis forever and ever.
I reflect solely upon Ganesha, forever and ever.

‘Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah’

Happy Teachers Day

This is for all who have had an opportunity of touching a child’s life
From A School Principal's speech at a graduation…
He said "A doctor wants his child to become a doctor…
An engineer wants his child to become an engineer…
A businessman wants his ward to become a CEO…
BUT a teacher also wants his child to become one of them..!!!!
Nobody wants to become a teacher BY CHOICE
" Very sad but that's the truth…!!!
He spoke further,” The guests were sitting around the table…..discussing life.
One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education.
He argued," What is a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"
To stress his point he said to another guest;
"You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?"
Teacher Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied,
"You want to know what I make?"
(She paused for a second, then began...)
"Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honour winner. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 minutes without an I Pod, a PSP or a T.V programme.
"You want to know what I make?
(She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table)
I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them how to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life."
(Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)
"Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant. You want to know what I make?"

"I MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ALL YOUR LIVES, EDUCATING KIDS AND PREPARING THEM TO BECOME CEO's, AND DOCTORS AND ENGINEERS…"

"What do you make Mr. CEO?";
He went silent.

Happy Teacher’s Day to all Teachers, Parents and Grand-parents ,who guide their children throughout their lives.

Raksha Bandhan---A Day Dedicated to the Ever Loving Brothers.

Raksha Bandhan--The chaste bond of love between a brother and a sister is one of the deepest and noblest of human emotions.

On this day, I would wake up early and prepare a pooja thali. This consists of tubs of kanku, chokha, the rakhi thread, diva lamp, agarbati and sweets. It was so special and so much fun. Firstly the kanku is placed on the forehead, and chokha is then stuck upon it. Rakhi thread is tied – as the Sun Shines Sunlight, I tie the Rakhi to you, my brother and wish that you live long  and I pray that this Rakhi never fails to protect you. Then i light the diva lamp and agarbati, performing the aarti on my brother. Then the sweets is offered to my brother.

While tying the rakhi, the sister wishes for the brother’s well-being, success and protection. By giving a return gift, the brother acknowledges the love and promises to be by the sister’s side, through thick and thin. He wishes her a good life and pledges to take care of her. This day celebrates the brotherhood and sisterhood, their love and togetherness.Rakhi festival not only strengthens the bond of love and affection between brothers and sisters but also brings friends and strangers closer. When a rakhi is tied on the wrists of anyone it acts as a way to connect individuals on a new platform and brings them closer.

Rituals like Rakhi, help ease out various societal strains, induce fellow-feeling, open up channels of expression, give us an opportunity to rework on our role as human beings and, most importantly, bring joy in our mundane lives.

So log on  to
www.gayatri-mantra.in and do the Gayatri Mantra Lekhan and seek the Devine's Blessing.
“ May all be happy
May all be free from ills
May all behold only the good
  May none be in distress.”

Wishing all a very Happy Raksha Bandhan.

A Magic, A Miracle

Since childhood I have seen my mother writing the GayatriMantra,it always fascinated me.My Mother said doing the Gayatri Lekhan will always keep you happy in life and thus started my journey with the GayatriMantra.

When I dwelled deeper to learn more about the Gayatri Mantra I realized how blessed I am, for Gayatri Mantra was the first mantra to be taught in schools in the olden days as it enabled the students attain righteous and far sighted wisdom and energized them to absorb the onerous studies ahead of them.

It is said that “Gayatri completely purifies the soul. By the glorious power of Gayatri deep-rooted defects and vices are cleansed”. Maharishi Vyasa says “Just as honey is the essence of flower, ghee of milk, in the same way Gayatri is the essence of all the Vedas. Gayatri is like kamadhenu for one who has acquired proficiency in it. Ganga purifies the sins committed by physical body but Gayatri, the Brahma Ganga purifies the soul.

Gayatri miraculously transforms the mental framework of a person to a systematic, healthy, righteous and balanced personality. The well developed mind produces thoughts leading to action resulting in happiness. His work becomes excellent and his well intentioned thoughts radiate happiness, contentment and peace! Gayatri worship results in extraordinary benefits to its devotees. Numerous persons over thousands of years have achieved material and spiritual benefits by worshipping Gayatri.

Gayatri is Vedamata, the mother of all Vedas. A person totally devoted to Gayatri can achieve great success in the path of self advancement. The Gayatri Mantra inspires wisdom in us. In very basic but beautiful language, it says "May the divine light of the Supreme Being illuminate our intellect, to lead us along a path of righteousness". The Vedas say: To chant the Gayatri Mantra purifies the chanter. To listen to the Gayatri Mantra purifies the listener. But the mantra does more, as I found out. It opens up your heart. And how well we know, when both our minds and our hearts open, we open ourselves up for new possibilities.

One interpretation is that the word Gayatri is derived from the words: gaya, meaning “vital energies” and trâyate, meaning “preserves, protects, gives deliverance, grants liberation”. So, the two words "Gayatri Mantra" might be translated as “a prayer of praise that awakens the vital energies and gives liberation and deliverance from ignorance”.

Today, the Gayatri Mantrais chanted, meditated to, and sung around the world with reverence and love. It is often compared to The Lord’s Prayer in significance and impact. The beautiful and soothing ancient sounds, the flowing rhythmic patterns, and the powerful intent make the Gayatri Mantra a wonderful part of one’s daily spiritual practice. Because it is an earnest and heartfelt appeal to the Supreme Being for enlightenment, it can be universally applied. It really doesn’t matter what your religion, your color or your ethnicity is – what matters is your intent, and your authenticity, and your willingness to be moved.

Each time one does the  Gayatri Mantra Lekhan, One discovers a new meaning and feel which is beyond the ability to express in words. It has helped by
a. Eradicate fear, frustration, tension, doubts and miseries
b. Revival of peak enthusiasm and vigour
c. Realignment of priorities and goals
d. Emergence of new improved ideas, plans and visions
e. Sense of extreme peace and love with self and world and
f.All wonderful things you can think of and aspire for!

Hence Request one and all to start the Gayatri Mantra lekhan.Log on to www.gayatri-mantra.in Register yourself and begin the beautiful journey. You can write the Mantra as many a times you want and at whichever time u feel comfortable. In two to three weeks, you will find a tremendous change in you in terms of sharpened thinking process, intuitiveness, enhanced feeling of confidence and self-sufficiency, things going right much more in life, better inter-personal relationships, enhanced magnetism in personality and a lot more.

This is not magic or miracle in conventional sense. What you would have done in this process is to align yourself with your natural path and derive best benefits from Law of Karma. You have performed a cleansing action on your mind to eradicate negative thought patterns and replaced with the most positive vibes.

Good Luck and God Bless and Happy Writing !!!
